Mission for African Mothers (MAM)

Rural Youth Reproductive and Sexual Health Education Campaign (Uganda)
In October 2014, UCF awarded a small grant of $2,000 AUD to Mission for African Mothers (MAM) to run this project in Olio sub-county. You can read about that first grant here.

The aim of this project is to use a youth-to-youth based approach as a means of creating awareness among the rural youth on sexual and reproductive services, information and rights.

Bulogo Women’s Group (Uganda)

Entrepreneurship training
Bulogo Women’s Group (BWG) was started in 2005 by rural women of the Kamuli district to mobilize and empower women through enterprise, agriculture, health, human rights promotion and protection of the environment.

BWG wanted to expand their programme for entrepreneurship training to 300 women in the Kamuli district and applied to UCF for the funds to do so.

Nabilala Community Development Programme (Uganda)

Hospital beds for the Nabilala Children Health Centre
Nabilala Community Development Programme is a grass roots organisation which constructed Nabilala Children Health Centre to offer medical services to the poor rural children of Nabilala and the neighbouring villages. They applied to UCF for a grant to purchase 10 hospital beds for the Nabilala Children Health Centre.

Enterprise Development & Governance Facility (EDGF Cameroon)

Rural Women Micro Enterprise Cooperative Development
When EDGF went to construct a safe drinking water project in Ntungfe, they met with the village desperate and marginalised poor, who do not have access to financial services, and so depend on men in the community for supplies. Women are typically viewed in the community as farm hands. The women had created a potato cooperative as a link to their farming activities. This project aims at empowering the women to achieved their long desired goal of improved livelihoods.

Mahboba’s Promise (Afghanistan)

Water is a scarce resource in Afghanistan. Often there isn’t any plumbing system to ensure a reliable supply of water. Every house and every building has to find their own water source, often this entails digging a well, often it entails children walking long distances and then carrying the heavy loads back home.

Hopes and Dreams

Economic Empowerment – women’s self-help groups (South Africa)
Hopes and Dreams Inc. is dedicated to delivering self-sustaining, poverty breaking solutions through micro enterprise and water development projects in remote and rural parts of Africa and India.

Hopes and Dreams focus on two key areas:

  • bringing clean and safe water to communities, and
  • assisting the poor by providing Economic Empowerment opportunities via micro-economic loans.

International China Concern

En Quan Yuan Project, based in Changsha, Hunan Province (China)
Founded in 1993 by David Gotts, International China Concern (ICC) exists to help the disadvantaged live life to the full. They believe every child is precious and has the right to be loved, to have hope for the future and the opportunity to realize their dreams. ICC believes that where a child lives should not dictate if that child lives.
