Crisis line for bereaved parents
The Compassionate Friends (TCFSA) offer friendship and understanding by reaching out to bereaved parents, to the surviving siblings and other family members to support them in the grief and trauma which follows the death of a child at any age and from any cause.
TCF is a global organisation with an Australian national body and independently operating chapters in each State, it was formally established in Adelaide in 1992.
UCF received an application to fund their 24/7 crisis help line manned by a volunteer bereaved parent from our committee with an average of 10 calls per month. The help line is for newly bereaved parents and also for comfort for our longer term bereaved parent members. The grant funds would cover the ever increasing costs of the Crisis Line and white pages listings ($1900 p.a.) and internet provider costs.
Newly bereaved parents contact TCFSA via their Crisis Line, website and Facebook page and/or email address and all express heartfelt gratitude that TCFSA services are immediately available and they are able to chat with other bereaved parents in their greatest time of need. Country members in particular find this contact helpful as they are unable to attend the metro support groups. Polls of TCFSA members clearly inform the committee that these services together with our quarterly newsletter provide them with comfort and healing
The UCF Board were pleased to approve a grant of $2,000 to enable this much needed service to continue.
